The Journal of Surgical Research (May 2013) reports about the benefits of active oxygenation during hypothermic machine perfusion of kidneys. Raphaël Thuillier has performed a study on the effects of oxygen during the preservation phase. Perfusion with the Kidney Assist in combination with oxygenation with the integrated hollow fiber oxygenator resulted in significant better kidney function and quality, compared to perfusion without oxygen. Even after a follow up period of 3 months after transplantation the kidney function was significantly better.
